A Debunked List of Dorm Essentials

Back to school is just around the corner, and for University students scrambling for things to furnace your dorm room can be very stressful. This list is here to help you potentially find your soon to be move at little easier.


1. Shower Bags: For students without direct access to a shower, carrying your soaps, and toiletries to the showers can become very tedious. Having the proper storage bag can be a major help.



2. Garbage Can: This one goes without saying - keeping a clean dorm room, free of garbage keeps you with one less distraction during your studies.



3. Mattress Topper: Those dorm mattresses will have you needing to see a chiropractor within the first week. All though toppers can be pricey, I have found a few inexpensive options to get you through your semesters away from home.



4. Handheld Cordless Vacuum: Eating chips in bed? Break a glass? A cordless vacuum is a must. Calls for quick cleans, and keeps you on top of a clean dorm.



5. Dishes: Plastic dishes are the best option - easy to clean, light, and can withstand a few drops.



6. Electric Pots/Pans: Electric pots and pans are a godsend for dorm tenants. Makes cooking that much easier especially if you don't have your own kitchen in your dorm. These allow you to cook your favourite meals whenever you feel like it.



7. Vanity Mirror with Lights: Having a break from your studies? A night on the town? Everyone needs a vanity mirror for doing makeup.



8. Desk Lamp: Lights in dorm rooms are terrible! Having proper lighting when reading through text books and notes will save you from a head ache.



9. Compact Storage Containers: Perfect for clothing, towels, blankets, and all your storage needs.



10. Portable Door Lock: Everyone needs a little extra protection, whether it be for peace of mind or not.


11. Oil Diffuser: Essential oils have many uses, one main one is they can used to relieve stress and improve brain function. Assisting you in your studies.


12. Lap Desk: Finding it hard to get out of bed to study? Get a lap desk and set all of your studying needs up without even having to leave bed.


13. Hanging Closet Organizer: Dorm closets have a tendency to be extremely small, using all aspects of the space is essential. These hanging closet organizers are your way of thinking smarter... not harder.



14. Measuring Bowls/Spoons: Perfect for perfecting recipes whether it be for baking cookies or making a dinner.
